ABOUT THE ARTISTS’ WORK:

Born in Toulouse, Nathalie De Zan has been a multimedia artist for ten years. Although her preferred medium is photography, for achieving her aesthetic ends she uses all manner of media in her creative process: clay modeling, graphic design, origami, clothing, … She works on the bodily links to space and to intimacy in provocative and dreamlike settings. For her the body is a way of elaborating analogies between artistic and physical processes. The aim is to question the status of the body in the face of diverse pressures of our modern world. She creates syncretic chimera aided by metaphor, and by symbols that she is constantly questioning.

Barbara Shelly is a self-taught mixed media artist. She literally and figuratively tears through the print media, layering it into textured collages using sketches, newspaper, ink and paint. Her creative instincts place the images, covering some for texture and highlighting others. Her love of the performing arts has been rewarded by her paintings finding their way to her subjects including Spike Lee and Stella Abrera, ABT.

Brittany Vogel, a New York City based artist, focuses on expressive painting and drawing and sometimes even combines the two techniques. The explosive color on her painted canvases easily becomes the focal point in any room. Common themes in her work show the push-pull of order vs. chaos, handmade vs. machine-made, and geometric vs. organic forms – all placed on the same surface. These oppositional forces produce a multi-dimensional space and create tension but ultimately find balance in each other. Her work is full of excitement, color and life. She draws freehand in archival ink so that each line is fresh and without erasure. She has now started to weave this expressive drawing into her paintings.
